First off, I would like to say that I am very honoured to be able to represent the people of Capreol and all of Ward 7 on City Council following the results of the election on October 27th.
Many times during my campaign I was asked, who is Mike Jakubo? My response never waivered, and here it is:
First and foremost I am a husband to my wife Jody, a high school teacher with the Rainbow District School Board, and father to our beautiful children, 4 year old son, Malik and 2 year old daughter, Myla. I work for a small accounting firm where I am a Chartered Professional Accountant, helping individuals, businesses and not-for-profit organizations every day. I also enjoy curling and golfing, two sports that have afforded me many opportunities over the past 18 years to travel and compete across the Province and the Country representing Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario at two Tim Hortons Briers in 2005 and 2009 and at a Canadian Junior Golf Championship in 2001. This past summer, I also enjoyed coaching Malik’s Timbit soccer team and the family and I enjoy our time at camp on the Wahnapitae River.
I was born and raised in Greater Sudbury, growing up in New Sudbury, graduating from St. Charles College and attaining my Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University. I then moved down to Toronto for three years to work for Ernst & Young LLP and attain my Chartered Accountant’s designation. It was at that time, six and half years ago that my wife Jody and I, newly married, decided to move back north to Greater Sudbury to raise a family.
My family is the reason I ran for Council because I want to make sure that Greater Sudbury grows to be a place that my kids will one day want to call home as well, not just because they grew up here, but because this City has all the opportunities they need to find jobs in any field they choose and because this City provides the excitement and adventure that youth and those that are young at heart desire.
To this end, I look forward to working with the newly elected Councillors and Mayor to make sure that our City, our Ward, and Capreol see the progression that is so necessary for sustainability and success. I also look forward to continuing to listen to and meet with the residents of Capreol and, in particular, working with the Capreol Community Action Network to make Capreol an even better place to live and grow!
Councillor-Elect Ward 7
