January Chair Notes

The Capreol Community Action Network started 2013 off with a meeting attended by 33 community citizens. Each one came with intentions to ask questions, supply information or just watch and listen.

Councillor Kilgour was in attendance and we thank him for his support and insight into the different topics as discussed through the agenda. Also thank you to Barb McDougall-Murdoch our City representative for her continued support.

The police representative gave a brief overview of policing in the community with few incidents being reported and their winter patrolling in full swing. It is to be noted that incidents can be reported without giving your name by going on-line with Cop Logic. This can be accessed through the GSPS website.
Please note that this website is in the process of being upgraded to include more reporting options and to ensure it is user friendly. We will try to have a presentation on this in one of our spring meetings.

Mr Tullio Ricci and Ms. Tina Junkala gave an update on the Capreol Assisted Living Project and they are organized to commence fund-raising. The group is looking for $6 million dollars. Further information can be obtained by contacting the group.

We talked about a concern of having more guard rails on the ski-hill road near the intersection of Lakeshore St. We will pursue this concern also bearing in mind the Waterfront project and aesthetics for weddding/family picture etc.

The Walking Program is in full swing at the C.R. Judd Public School. The contact is Sari at 705-858-4430.

It appears that the Capreol ski hill may be transformed into a “tubing hill”. In talking with adults and youth alike, it would be a welcome change. Apparently last year we only had 35 downhill ski members. More information to follow.

HDTV will be coming to Sudbury and they will be looking for cast members. Watch the local news media for more information or call 311.

Capreol Days planning is well underway by the Capreol Business Association with at least two major events planned so far being the Amazing Capreol Race and the Gavin Rousseau evening of entertainment on Friday night.

The CCAN is pleased to be able to bring information to light that concerns you, the community. On February 6, at the Capreol Arena hall there will be a short general CCAN meeting followed by presentations by Mr. Pete Fortin outlining the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation process and what that means to you, the taxpayer.

Mr. Harvey Prudhomme and Mr. Bob Lamoureux will also make a presentation concerning the Waterpower Group that proposes to have a water turbine system on the river near the old bridge. They have been here before and they want to update the community on the process.

All of the community is welcome and the CCAN urges you to be part of informed community moving forward.

Randy Crisp – Chair of the Capreol Community Action Network (CCAN)
